Activities

kulturweit volunteers engage in promoting education, science and culture worldwide.

The tasks the kulturweit volunteers from Germany are performing for the next six to twelve months are extremely multifaceted. They differ depending on the requirements at the assignment location and personal qualification of the volunteer. The tasks include offering assistance during German class in a partner school, organising cultural events at the Goethe-Institut or public relations work in an information centre of the German Academic Exchange Service.

Over the course of his/her voluntary service, all volunteers work through a project cycle, starting with smaller seminar projects during the preparatory seminar, over his/her own project in the host country, all the way to the final presentation of the project during the follow up seminar. Volunteers coordinate their project ideas, which should be a result of their field of activity, with their assignment location, to ensure a smooth integration into the process and structures of their assignment.

The majority of institutions recruiting volunteers for their voluntary service belong to the network of partner organisations abroad within Germany’s cultural relations and education policy.

National Commissions for UNESCO

Volunteers experience day-to-day work in an internationally connected political institution of a foreign country during their work with a National Commission for UNESCO. They receive a direct glimpse into the environment of culture, research and education in their host country and get to know the respective political structure. It is quite common for Commissions to be located in ministries. Therefore, in most cases, an excellent knowledge in the respective work language is an essential requirement for the volunteer.

Volunteers assist National Commissions in the administrative sector, public relations or with the organisation of events. They are frequently involved in the design and implementation of projects.
